We Tried

I got this great idea for the one last "hurrah," of our young family Halloween.
Before our eldest little princess decided to be a princess for every Halloween for the next ten years. Or a mermaid. Or a girl that likes to ride carpets. Okay, sprinkle in a few years as a fairy. But you get the idea. No worries, I believe those would be GREAT costumes, assuredly- and I have nothing against Ariel or Tink. Cinderella is my fave. But this is MARKED in my mind and in the pictures of our family album as one of those concious times I, as a mother, decided to dig into the craft and flex my creative muscles on my helpless little girls. We fought the current. And Allie probably won't care or roll her eyes at me until that fateful day in her some other ten years when she will appreciate this little gesture. For showing everyone how cute SHE really is. How unique and special she is. And I will smile and tuck the curly hair behind her ear and she will understand the wisdom in thinking that a two-year-old plus a lot of balloons was a darling thing to do. She really loved playing with them, they both did.
We went to our church trunk-or-treat (are you ready for this?) as the main characters from the movie "UP."
So here is the run-down. (I wish I had better pictures, it was windy)
No costume cost more than $3.50 each and were assembled in less than an hour each. This is also wisdom to me. I also don't sew. I don't sew well at all.
Allie Cat was the house.
Jake was the grumpy old guy, Carl.
Danielle was the lovable talking dog, Dug.
I was the Junior Wilderness Explorer, Russel.
The only thing I didn't take into account is that most people, even with kids, haven't seen the movie yet. -!
Oh well. We tried. But we had so much fun. And I love Jake in a whole new dimension for humoring me. And we are celebrating thoroughly life with Danielle in it.
And so, Allie the little house gathered her candy and really was endearing. Then she helped the me pass out candy and she liked doing it and saying, "You're Welcome" just as much as getting candy for herself.
And we are living happily ever after. The end.
